Strategies for Generating Essay Writing

Page history last edited by Mr. Ullman 12 years, 5 months ago

Observe the "small stuff" in your life - something you see or overhear.  Write about that thing, then try to let that writing spark a thought.

Think of an issue that matters to you - list ideas associated with that issue and then write off the list.

Look back at the writing you've already done in your Writer's Notebook.  Re-read your writing and ask yourself questions like:

  • Why did I write this entry?

  • What's the most important thing about this topic?

  • Why is this topic important to me?

Write a new entry based on the answers to these questions.

Respond to something you've read recently.  Write your thoughts, then say, "The thought I have about this is..." and write your ideas.
