Design a Star Wars Plant Project Page

Page history last edited by Mr. Ullman 10 years, 11 months ago

Directions – Congratulations!  As a renowned xenobiologist, you have been tasked by the Galactic Alliance to study the plant life on a particular alien planet.   Each planet has its own unique environment, and the plant life on each planet has evolved to survive in those environments.  Your task is to construct a representation of a plant that lives on the planet you are studying and describe how it is able to survive on its home planet.  Your presentation must include the following:

  •     A description of the environment where the plant lives.  I will give you some basic information, but you can add to it by using your imagination.
  •     A description of ways in which this plant has adapted to survive in its particular biome.  Think about how you have studied how plants in different biomes have adaptations in:
    •  Their stems, leaves and roots
    •  How they reproduce
    •  Their growing cycles
  •     A detailed and colorful model or diagram of the alien plant you have studied.  It must include:
    • The name of the plant (be creative!)
    • Labels identifying the important structures and functions of the plant including (but not limited to):
      • Roots
      • Stems
      • Leaves
      • Reproductive organs

Even though your plant will be imaginary, you should be logical in your design.  For example, flytrap-type plants live in tropical biomes because the soil there is usually very poor, so those plants need the additional nutrients from insects.  I wouldn’t expect to see a flytrap-type plant in a temperate biome, where the soil is better.

You can present your project in any format you wish, as long as all the criteria are met.    You can choose to make a model, or a drawing.  You can present it online, or in real-time.  It is all up to you!

You will present your plant to the class on Wednesday, May 29.  You will be doing the vast majority of this project on your own, so it’s important to budget your time.  Just like any project, you must have a plan!  You should have a plan in place by next week, so that you can spend most of your time working on your project and leave yourself some time to prepare how you will present it!  Remember, your grade is based on both the information in your presentation and also on how neatly it is presented!  Good luck!
